I’m not sure how best to set up this health log & tracker up, so I’ll just dive in head first by typing out my thoughts to generate ideas. I’ll then just keep running this journal post through various iterations until I find a method that works best for me in tracking my health problems.
I could make this a daily journal format and just type out how things are going for me, but that seems like it would be difficult to do any quick data analysis. It’s also time consuming. Alternatively, I could also throw everything onto a spreadsheet for ease of recording and looking for patterns, but that might be confusing to read, and not everything is best recorded via spreadsheet.
It’ll probably be some happy medium of journaling and spreadsheet. Now, I just need to know what’s important enough to track, and what I think might be relevant to helping me get better.
I guess it makes sense to monitor and record my symptoms (nausea, vomiting, activity) as well as weight and food intake. After all, my Goal for getting better would involve:
Regain 2 kg (4.4 lbs) of weight lost while I was sick and improve my swallowing and nausea issues.
Food and weight seem easy enough to track via spreadsheet, as well as the vomiting symptom. It’s a definitive, recordable number.
My feelings of nausea and swallowing abilities are going to be a bit harder to record. I can measure it with some sort of made up sliding scale I guess, but there’s a subjective aspect to doing that which seems like it would be difficult to keep consistent. I guess I could do some searches on the internet and see if there’s any other ways of measuring swallowing and nausea. Also, I’m not a scientist, and I don’t want to waste time hopelessly measuring things just for the sake of collecting data.
I think I’ll just start out with the 1st part of my goal, measuring my weight and food intake. Seems easy enough. And I’ll look up healthy cat diets that have been used for weight gain and see what works best. But 1st, I think I’m gonna need a weight scale. Hmm…seems like I get to go shopping with Kristin’s credit card.
